Five years after Le Tigre’s last world tour — 4 continents and 10 countries — this documentary / concert video thrillingly captures the band’s last attempt to simultaneously rock, not sell out and remain political. And for the most part, they succeed. You’ll find yourself viscerally responding to the rallying call of concert favourite F.Y.R.’s “Feminists we’re calling you! Please report to the front desk.” You’ll also get an insider’s view into a marginal group’s entry into the world tour concert club and the DIY shenanigans they get into, often with humour, hijinks and a self-awareness rarely seen in the mainstream. We also see Kathleen Hannah’s cutting sense of humour, J. D. Samson’s luck with the ladies, and a deadpan Joanna Fateman fucking with “rockers-with-full-on face-makeup,” Slipknot. But when ex- Bikini Kill frontwoman and riot grrrl veteran Hannah tells a radio DJ how she did indeed inspire Kurt Cobain to write Smells like Teen Spirit, we get a glance at her inner world. But mostly the film is a whimsical rock ride into the trio’s inner world, providing a soundtrack to the spirit of the feminist movement of the late 90s, fueling fires and reigniting a beastly soundtrack to politics.
Dude. Yr So Crazy!
